Koolshade looking good after 18 years in the nick

Koolshade, the sun control system supplied and installed by Coopers on the Peckham Police Station building back in 1987 is still providing perfect protection against the sunlight and glare.
Specially woven from lightweight micro bronze wire, the Koolshade material consists of 700 tiny 1mm louvres every metre.
This tough, lightweight material was incorporated into durable frame extrusions and fitted to the exterior of the windows.
The result was total elimination of the sun's rays, additional security and noise reduction, plus protection against insects and airborne dirt particles - whilst still allowing uninterrupted airflow throughout the building.
The station at Peckham is an old Victorian building dating back to the turn of the century well before the advent of air conditioning.
A major consideration, therefore, in the Police Authority's choice of solar protection, was the ability to open the aging sash-hung windows during the summer months, and ensure that they could be cleaned easily from the outside - both key features of the Koolshade system.
After more than18 years exposure to the elements in a harsh London environment, the coated protective louvres are still in excellent condition, continuing to enhance one of the many old listed buildings in the Capital.
