Coopers to provide a training seminar outlining the effectiveness of 'Smoke Curtains in Extract Systems in Atria' at the Fire Protection Association Fire College in Johannesburg.

With ever more demanding legislation covering the installation of fire and smoke containment systems in buildings worldwide, education and training has become a key issue.

Coopers, one of the world's market leaders in active fire and smoke containment, was invited by the South African Institute of Fire Engineers (I.F.E.SA) to provide a training seminar outlining the effectiveness of 'Smoke Curtains in Extract Systems in Atria' at the Fire Protection Association Fire College in Johannesburg.

The presentation, delivered by Chuck Lewis, incorporated a detailed overview of the types of automatic smoke curtains currently available.

It encompassed how they are incorporated into complete extraction systems, the features and benefits and drawbacks of all the possible product options, and the current legislation covering their installation and operation.

With the World Cup scheduled to take place in South Africa in 2010, stringent new European regulations are being considered for adoption by the Regulator and Professionals alike.

These new regulations, relating to the buildings and complexes used during the tournament, will ensure the highest levels of fire protection.

Over 60 fire engineers and fellow professionals from the Johannesburg Fire Community attended the two-hour presentation in the main lecture theatre of the College.

At the end of the session delegates were invited to ask more specific questions relevant to their individual areas of responsibility.

The Seminar is part of Coopers' ongoing programme of providing essential CPD (Continuous Professional Development, assessed and certified by RIBA - The Royal Institute of British Architects ) training to ensure that architects, engineers and specifiers have the information they need to ensure that the fire and smoke containment products that they integrate into their projects fully meet the latest safety regulations.
