CIWEM has signed an MoU with the Academy of Experts, the professional body for Expert Witnesses, Mediators and Arbitrators.

Law Lord, The Rt.Hon.Lord Saville of Newdigate and President of the Academy says: "I welcome CIWEM's engagement in what is becoming a more complex area in law".

Meeting the challenges of climate change through mitigation and adaption strategies has led to a significant increase in new regulation and legislation.

This means the environment is figuring more prominently in the law courts, in mediation and arbitration cases.

CIWEM's partnership with the Academy of Experts is particularly timely.

Many CIWEM members are appearing as Expert Witnesses in Courts of Law and in independent arbitration and mediation cases.

Through this MOU, the Academy will provide training and advise CIWEM members of court protocol and procedures necessary to carrying out successful expert witness, mediation and arbitration work.

These are vital skills because it means the difference between success and failure for clients and will result in gaining the new 'Accredited Expert Water and Environment Witness' designation available through the Academy.
