CJ Haughey groundwork for new Academy
CJ Haughey will conduct extensive earthworks, ground stabilisation and complicated foundation excavations at the new Nottingham University Samworth Academy.
A GBP1.8 million groundwork's package has been secured by contractor, CJ Haughey.
The new GBP24 million Nottingham University Samworth Academy (NUSA) is one of the first Academies to be procured via a Local Education Partnership (LEP).
The NUSA is being built on the site of the current William Sharp School in Bilborough, Nottingham and forms part of the GBP208 million Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme awarded to Carillion Plc by Nottingham City Council.
As part of the programme, CJ Haughey has already secured groundwork packages at two other schools, Big Wood and Hadden Park High Secondary School.
Working for main contractor Carillion Plc, CJ Haughey will be undertaking 7,500 cubic metres of earthworks plus an extensive ground stabilisation program as well as surfacing and highway works.
The project will require careful approach to the excavations of the foundations due to artesian water on the site and over excavation could result in the water being released.
The new school is being procured through LEP Inspired Spaces Consortium, which comprises of Nottingham City Council, Carillion Plc and Partnerships for Schools.
Nottingham City Council and Partnerships for Schools each provide 10 per cent of the equity in the LEP, with Carillion Plc providing the remaining 80 per cent.
Once completed the state-of-the-art Academy will cater for 950 children aged 11 to 18.
