A new compact module from Carlo Gavazzi extends energy, gas and water metering systems by allowing them to be monitored over local area networks and the Internet The AR1060 has an Ethernet interface and built-in Web server, enabling instantaneous data from high-performance instruments to be displayed remotely, and allowing logged data to be downloaded for recording purposes or further analysis

The plug-in module can be retrofitted or added at any time, providing a cost-efficient alternative to conventional RS485 industrial networking.

It is fully compatible with existing and new versions of both the WM4 Universal Utility Meter and PQT Power Quality Transducer, offering a 9600bit/s connection between these modular instruments and Ethernet networks.

Physical LAN connection is via a standard 10BaseT socket.

As well as Ethernet TCP/IP protocols, the new module integrates a Web server running HTTP and TFTP (Trivial File Transfer Protocol) services.

The former allows meters to be interrogated through a Web browser.

Page memory of 512kByte enables all instantaneous measurements to be displayed, along with actual energy, gas and water meters.

Up to eight logged variables are downloadable for rendering as a graph with zoom and cursor functions.

Historical data going back 12 months can be shown in histogram format.

Data files are transferred from internal memory to PCs via TFTP, and measurement data are available as Excel-compatible text files.

In addition, the module's firmware is readily upgraded from the Web or LAN.
