CMS Acoustics delivers Eco-nomical sound solution

A CMS Acoustics product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Feb 1, 2008

Quarmby Construction has used Regupol 4515 Eco to achieve Part E compliance at the new Victoria Mills development in Shipley Glen, Bradford.

Commissioned to design and construct the new build element of the complex, Quarmby selected Regupol 4515 Eco, a recycled rubber crumb and cork compound acoustic underlay, to cost effectively control impact sound and maintain the required floor to ceiling heights without applying a screed or floating floor.

Available exclusively through CMS Acoustics in the UK, Regupol 4515 Eco offers an efficient method of sound control by attenuating noise at source.

Quick and easy to install, the material is simply bonded to the subfloor with the final floor finish then laid directly on top.

Tested with no floor finish laid, Regupol 4515 Eco has been shown to provide impact sound insulation of 17dB.

To ensure effective acoustic design of the apartments, Quarmby initially conducted on-site testing with no sound treatment present.

This identified that airborne sound was adequately controlled but an impact sound solution would be necessary to deliver the apartments against Part E standards.

Regupol 4515 Eco was favoured because it is more environmentally friendly than using a thicker concrete slab, and as compared with a floating floor, it would keep the construction height to a minimum.

Colin Gebbie, contracts manager at Quarmby Construction, explains: 'We sought a cost effective treatment that would deliver the required level of sound insulation and maintain the required floor to ceiling heights without applying a screed or floating floor.

We found all of this in Regupol 4515 Eco'.

Supplied in standard thicknesses of 3mm and 4.5mm, Regupol 4515 Eco is available in rolls of 20m and 12m respectively.

The material has been tested over time and been shown to maintain its performance without collapse under high point loads.

The first phase of the Victoria Mills new build apartments is now complete with pre-completion testing (PCT) confirming that Part E compliance has been achieved.

The second phase is currently underway, where Regupol 4515 Eco is also being used to control impact sound.

A total of 167 apartments over eight storeys will be created.

Paul Absolon, technical director, CMS Acoustic Solutions, concludes: 'All products in the CMS Acoustics portolfio have been rigorously tested.

As with all our systems, Regupol 4515 Eco has been proven to perform over time, offering developers reassurance that it will maintain its impact sound insulation for the duration".
