CMS Acoustics supports ear protection in schools

A CMS Acoustics product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Nov 10, 2009

CMS Acoustics is raising awareness for acoustic standards within the construction industry, especially in schools.

The Noise Abatement Society's Love Your Ears campaign aims to raise awareness and protect children's hearing from permanent damage through continued exposure to loud music on MP3 players.

CMS Acoustics says this aim should also apply to the construction industry.

BB93 verification is yet to become mandatory and schools still risk failing to meet minimum acoustic standards.

New school designs must comply with BB93 acoustic standards however once the project is on site, there is no legislation governing quality control.

There is no mandatory on site sound testing to confirm the approved acoustic designs have not been compromised by specification erosion or poor workmanship.

With the BB93 review consultation underway, indications point to BB93 verification becoming mandatory.

CMS Acoustics suggests that prevention not cure is the answer, especially important where large investments are concerned.
