Aluminium profiles for extensive glazed
facade

Comar Architectural Aluminium Systems supplied aluminium profiles for the extensive glazed facade and entrances to The Park Pavilion, a recently completed project in an historic Birkenhead Park.

The Park - the first ever municipal space, as well as the model for the Central Park in New York - has recently been a subject of renovation and new build, all sponsored by the National Heritage Fund The Pavilion is a new ultra-modern-looking build designed as a juxtaposition to the Park's existing Victorian architecture

As well as injecting the immediate locale with a shock of post-modernism, the organic-shaped Pavilion serves as the visitors' and administrative centre as well as featuring the latest developments in facade design.

Comar systems were specified for the building's facade and Comar approved fabricator, K2 Architectural Aluminium Systems Limited, manufactured and installed all the fenestration.

Comar 6 curtain walling has a variety of specially extruded profiles - the adjustable corner mullions created the facetted elevation.

Comar 6 ultra-slim 50mm sight lines are in accordance with the build's minimalist appearance, whilst aluminium's strength-to-weight ratio allows the curtain wall to hold the 1.5 metre high double-glazed panes.

With its wide range of beads and gaskets, Comar 6 is able to incorporate the panes of Solar Control Glass as well as aluminium panels of different widths.

The aluminium panels create a feature over the ground floor gallery, complementing the aluminium-grey finish of the solar shading.

The Orangery-styled ground floor features seven entrances, all of which were composed of Comar 7 automatic sliding and side-hung doors, integrated into Comar 6 framing.

Comar Systems design met the brief on aesthetic and functional level.

Because of Comar Systems complete integration, the slim sight lines are maintained throughout the facade, whilst aluminium's durability and low maintenance are in line with the current demand for sustainability in the building material.
