CORGI Competent Persons Schemes QandA
Competent Persons Schemes have been set up by the Government to allow trades people in England and Wales to self-certify that their work complies with Building Regulations
This is compared to just 40% of boilers fitted in Scotland and Northern Ireland that were high efficiency.
As part of transitional arrangements introduced to help ensure the smooth introduction of the changes, a number of exceptions were introduced for example, if a contract was in place before 1st April 2005.
Eight per cent of boilers installed and notified were not high efficiency, the reasons given include:.
* Planning permission granted prior to 1st April 2005 (accounting for 38%).
* A contract was in place prior to 1st April 2005 (accounting for 32%).
* Fitting a condensing boiler was not feasible (accounting for 23%).
* Assessment procedure is over 1000 points (accounting for 5%).
* A manufacturer replacement (accounting for 2%).
Under Part L (heating services), local building control must also be notified of the associated fittings and services served by the appliance.
Those installers that have opted in to self-certify under Part L simply notify CORGI, leaving CORGI to notify their Local Authority Building Control on their behalf and to send a Building Regulations Compliance certificate to their customer.
Already figures for 2006-2007 are showing an even greater compliance with energy efficiency requirements.
Since April 2006, 96% of boilers installed and notified in England and Wales have been high efficiency.
Between April 2005 and April 2006 over 1 million gas appliance installations were notified to CORGI as part of Gas Work Notification.
Gas Work Notification was introduced to assist CORGI in making crucial changes to further improve gas safety.
