Strong start for retail car park specialists
Retail car park specialist, Composite, has made a strong start to 2005, commencing work on two major retail car park contracts in Surrey and Scotland.
The total project at Barge Arm, Gloucester Docks, is for two new buildings.
One is a five storey apartment block with 67 one and two bedroom apartments, with two retail units on the ground floor.
The adjacent building has 17 apartments, four commercial units and the car park.
Composite Managing Director, Roy Nield-Dumper said: "The use of circular pre cast concrete ramps for the car park is a first for the UK.
The use of pre cast concrete meant that the car park element of the project was erected in just seven weeks".
The car park is a 15.6m clear span with a circular ramp structure at each end.
The stair/lift stores are contained centrally within these circular structures.
The two buildings, which are designed with brick and timber elevations to complement the existing Victorian architecture, will overlook the waterfront towards the National Waterways Museum and will have views towards Gloucester Cathedral.
The scheme achieves the highest environmental rating of 'excellent' and 'very good' using the BREEAM Eco Homes environmental assessment method in recognition of its use of natural, sustainably resourced materials and energy-saving technology and design.
