This award reflected the company's efforts to not only develop its own workforce and those in its industry, but also to dramatically improve the career prospects of scores of young, unemployed people in the London Borough of Newham - close to its head office.
Dick Mynehan, Crowley's health, safety and training manager, and the person responsible for heading up Crowley's in-house training facility and also its unique Newham Partnership Programme, collected the award on the night at the prestigious ceremony held at 30 St Mary Axe - or 'The Gherkin'.
Says Dick: "Winning this award makes me immensely proud of the achievements of my team".
"By 'my team' I mean the training and development team at Crowley, the Newham trainees and all of Crowley's employees that have worked tirelessly to learn new skills - developing themselves and improving the future prospects of the business and the wider industry".
Awards Judge Paul Finch, said of Crowley on the night: "Crowley have shown an exceptionally strong and innovative effort to engage with their local, and particularly disadvantaged, community".
A City and Guilds Construction Industry Training Board accredited training provider, Crowley has been working as part of the Newham Training Partnership since 2002.
This partnership with Newham Council provides local young people with on the job training, enabling them to work towards NVQ 2 level qualifications and helping them to secure jobs in the buoyant construction industry.
So far this scheme has helped over 70 young people obtain permanent employment.
Crowley has also invested considerably into the development of its own workforce, with employees benefiting from continuous development be they operatives, supervisory staff or management.
