Construction sector senior executives juggle
New research by the Chartered Management Institute shows senior executives in the construction sector are struggling to manage conflicting priorities.
Called 'Competent Manager', the programme can cater for up to 25 graduates each year and, if successful, participants will be awarded a Diploma in Management.
Candidates will study for their diplomas at work, using practical workplace examples to ensure the programme is relevant to their specific needs.
The course has been designed to complement Tarmac's current in-house training, and will take up to 15 months to complete.
Topics covered include operational management, budget control, managing people and change leadership.
Candidates' work will be assessed by the Chartered Management Institute and validated by the Open University.
Louise Mackay, graduate co-ordinator at Tarmac says: "One of the key benefits of Competent Manager is that it will provide our graduates with a specific business-focused qualification with international recognition - one which offers an excellent link between academic success and the world of business.
Our graduates will also mix with colleagues across the organisation, allowing them to build their knowledge about all aspects of our business." Christine Hayhurst, director of professional affairs at the Chartered Management Institute, says: "Evidence indicates that management development can improve productivity, so qualifications that are directly linked to Tarmac's business requirements will go some way towards driving up performance.
It will also be a massive boost for graduates to know they are part of an organisation that is serious about investing in their future.".
