Stephen Timms, Minister for Energy, E-commerce and Postal Services presented the Premier Award for Business Commitment to the Environment to Corus Colors managing director, Jack MacLachlan.

Corus Colors, the UK's leading manufacturer of pre-coated steels, has been nationally recognised for its commitment to the environment, including the development of new sustainable products, through the Business Commitment to the Environment Award scheme, run by the national environmental charity, Groundwork Stephen Timms, Minister for Energy, E-commerce and Postal Services presented the Premier Award for Business Commitment to the Environment to Corus Colors managing director, Jack MacLachlan on 20th April 2004

Jack MacLachlan commented: "Our approach is to develop products that contain no hazardous substances and can be easily re-cycled at the end of life.

A million tonnes of pre-coated steel products are produced by Corus Colors each year and the environmental benefits resulting from our development work in recent years is therefore significant." Corus Colors recognises the need to develop products with a low environmental impact in a sustainable manner.

All Corus Colors sites in the UK have the environmental standard ISO 14001, and there are two sites of special scientific interest (SSSI) at the Shotton site.

The approach to product development is shown in each of the industries supplied by Corus Colors; construction, domestic appliances and automotive.

CONSTRUCTION.

HPS200 by Corus, with the best-guaranteed performance in the market place, has been used in a wide range of building applications, from traditional industrial buildings to schools and hospitals.

A comprehensive lifecycle assessment of HPS200, published as Insite, has demonstrated the environmental impact of HPS200 over its lifetime to be minimal in comparison with more traditional construction materials.

DOMESTIC APPLIANCE.

Corus Colors supplies many leading domestic appliance brands, and has recently developed a new production process that eliminates the need for chrome treatment of steel.

This is in response to future EU legislation limiting the use of certain substances, which will assist domestic appliance manufacturers in meeting their recycling targets.

AUTOMOTIVE.

Vehicle fuel tanks are traditionally manufactured from either lead alloy coated steel or plastic.

Corus Colors has developed a unique new steel product that reduces environmental impact by replacing lead with tin in the coating.

The new product, Neotec, outperforms plastic and is easier to recycle at the end of the vehicle life.

Neotec is used on many vehicles around the world. Request free introductory details about products from Corus Colors ...
