Corus Celestia Chosen For Dublin School

Roof Corus Colors has supplied Celestia in copper-look Pegasus to St.Vincent's Developmental Education Centre in Dublin

Roof Corus Colors, the UK's largest manufacturer of organic-coated steel to the construction industry, has supplied Celestia in copper-look Pegasus to St Vincent's Developmental Education Centre (DEC) in Dublin, which provides education and care facilities for children and adults with moderate, severe and profound mental disabilities

Designed by architects Burke Kennedy Doyle, the single story Education Centre is timber clad featuring a large overhanging roof with an area of approximately 500m2 clad in Tegral Aluseam standing seam roofing manufactured by Tegral Metalforming Ltd.

The roof material choice was metallic effect Celestia in Pegasus which mimics the look of pre-patinated copper.

Architect Sandra Molphy, Burke Kennedy Doyle, comments: "We chose to use Pegasus because it gives a finish similar in appearance to pre-patinated copper and Celestia gives a much more intense metallic finish than regular RAL colours.

The finish of Celestia in Pegasus, in tandem with the Tegral Aluseam roof cladding, provided an aesthetic standing seam roof covering where the striking natural colour effect is visible from all angles of the surrounding site." A major consideration for Burke Kennedy Doyle in specifying Celestia was the additional benefit of its comprehensive Confidex guarantee.

In addition to offering a durable and contemporary finish Celestia is guaranteed by Confidex which is the most comprehensive guarantee in the UK for pre-coated steel products giving up to 21-years cover directly to the building owner, in this case St.

Vincent's National School.

Corus Colors has recently developed a range of Celestia coatings to offer architects a real, cost effective and more predictable alternative to natural metals.

In tandem with the current architectural fashion for using natural metals to provide something different, Corus Colors has seen a mirrored interest in its newly developed Celestia colours of Pegasus, Midas, Artemis, Apollo, Helios and Zeus which look like, respectively, pre-patinated copper, brass, bronze, pre-oxidised copper, milled copper and zinc.

Unlike natural metals, which have inherent design peculiarities that require specialist design and detailing, Celestia is a straightforward and cost-effective alternative which offers specifiers exactly what they're looking for from the start while posing no associated on-site installation difficulties to the contractor.

Rodney Rice, Product Development Manager, Corus Colors, comments: "Pegasus gives the architect the power of suggesting pre-patinated copper but without drawbacks of a high-cost, complex installation a convoluted supply chain and the drawbacks of uneven weathering.

In fact, the newly developed range of Celestia colours really opens-up new design possibilities by delivering a sought after aesthetic for fast-track, durable construction." In the last five years Corus has seen over 250 schools projects using both Celestia HPS200 by Corus registered with the Confidex guarantee in the UK and Ireland.
