Completed building, roofed using Colorcoat HPS200 pre-finished steel, has won 'best building in the landscape' award from the Royal Institute of Architects in Ireland
It is highly visible, picked out with Tangerine Orange "book ends" and composed from distinct modules which allow signage, fenestration and openings to emerge almost effortlessly.
The Lok'nStore building replaces an obsolete brick-faced unit which had become an eyesore.
The replacement structure, as well as offering a brighter landmark, provides the central administration accommodation for the self-storage company and will act as a model for future Lok'nStore developments.

Metal cladding provides a maintenance free material with a selection of colours and profiles.
When fully fitted out internally, the building will provide 800 separate storage units, offering 5,500m2 of lettable space on four levels.
The design of the building is simple.
It is a single box volume which has been broken up into a series of modules to articulate the long facades and allow the office element to "slide out" from the main bulk of the facility.
This composition of different volumes is emphasised by the use of orange paneling, which contrasts with the lighter grey.
Lok'nStore has always used orange pre-finished steel for the internal doors of its buildings - this is the first time that Tangerine Orange has been used to such an extent on the facades of the company's premises.
The building, which permits even the largest removal vehicles to unload under canopies, is clad using Colorcoat HPS200 pre-finished steel from Corus.
The product provides a durable, distinctive and high quality external envelope.
Moreover, Colorcoat HPS200 pre-finished steel is guaranteed for up to 30 years by the Corus Confidex Guarantee.
Importantly, Lok'nStore wanted a showcase building which would express a positive, fresh and contemporary image in a growing market.
The company began with just two centres in 1995, but has grown rapidly and now operates 21 centres across the UK, offering almost 86,000m2 of storage space.
As the market has developed, the buildings have become increasingly sophisticated, while presentation has emerged as a key marketing tool.
"The self-storage product promise requires that the premises be presented in the best possible manner".
"The product is promoted as clean, dry, secure and easy to use, so the premises must visibly support these benefits," says Rhys Warren-Thomas, Lok'nStore Associate Director Property.
"Some years ago almost all of the facilities opened occupied older industrial or storage premises adapted to self-storage use".
"As the market developed, newer spec-built storage premises were taken".
"Now, the quality of product offered has been raised substantially, and the latest centres are being purpose built." The new building in Farnborough has already proved to be a positive step for the company".
"The operation has proved so successful that the Farnborough centre will provide a model for the company's future growth," says Warren-Thomas.
And there will certainly be growth.
The self-storage industry is well established in the US, which has around 35,000 self-storage facilities; the UK, on the other hand, has around 700 units. Request a free brochure from Corus Colors ...
