In its striking IKEA colour scheme of grey and blue the building rises to seven stories and has a floor space covering the equivalent of eight football pitches.
Five acres of new homes are also planned.
The client helped relocate 12 million MOD files to their new home in Derbyshire before preparing the land for its new civilian use.
Architectural practice Michael Sparks Associates was commissioned to design a series of buildings for the park, including the 16800m2 "Unit A" building, which was completed in October 2006.
The building.
Michael Sparks Associates' new "Unit A" building has already found a tenant in DHL which will be providing services for the British Airport Authority.
The building, which includes 1500m2 of office space, sports a distinctive composition of colours and textures that appears to live up to the demands of its demanding client.
One of ProLogis' demands was that the building should be as durable as possible, and project architect Paul Wahba specified a mix of Corus Colorcoat HPS200 and Colorcoat Prisma pre-finished steel products to meet that demand.
Both products come with the Corus Confidex Guarantee (lasting 30 and 25 years, respectively) which Wahba says make these products the practice's first choice when designing a building envelope.
"As a practice we've been specifying Corus products for some time now," he says.
"The guarantee from Corus is perfect".
"Any client who puts a building up wants it to last as long as possible - that is absolutely crucial".
"And when you consider the surface area of some of these buildings, the better the material you have the longer the building will last." Wahba also says the availability of these Colorcoat products, as well as the speed of construction they make possible, are also important factors when drawing up a specification list.
However, what appears to give Colorcoat HPS200 and Colorcoat Prisma a competitive edge is the range of aesthetic choices they make available to the architect.
The ProLogis building at Heathrow, for example, has been clad in two shades of grey in the metallic Colorcoat Prisma range, and capped in a band of white (Albatross has been used for the roof).
These colour choices have been made for a variety of reasons - they are neutral enough to suit a speculative development (some owner-occupiers specify branded colours) and they embody an element of restaint to avoid dominating the landscape.
Indeed, the white band at the top of this 12.5m high structure appears to reduce the mass of the building further.
The range of profiles in which Colorcoat products can be delivered is also a benefit".
""For us, when we design a building we don't want to specify any old colour and we want the freedom to make subtle changes to the finish".
"Both products offer a huge range of options," says Wahba.
Michael Sparks Associates is currently working on three further buildings at ProLogis Heathrow.
The practice specialises in logistics and distribution centres, as well as business parks.
