Palmer Report shows aluminium sales growth
Despite gloomy forecast for construction industry, aluminium continues to gain momentum as the specifiers choice for new and refurbishment projects.
The fully RIBA Approved CPD is one of a current series of 7 seminars that CAB members who receive familiarisation training can present to architects and specifiers.
Three key international speakers: Stephen Weller and Bernard Gilmont from the European Aluminium Association (EAA) and Gunter Kirchner from the Organisation of European Aluminium Refiners and Remelters (OEA) highlighted the importance and efficiency of the end of life recycling of aluminium building products.
A summary of the University of Delft Report was presented which highlighted that the actual recycling rate of aluminium products across 9 European projects (including deconstruction of Wembley Stadium) was between 92% and 98%.
Finally the development of an Aluminium EPD (environmental labelling) was announced together with a user friendly web based tool allowing customers to produce their own EPD's.
'Environmental Product Declaration's' (EPD's) is a European initiative and will be applicable to all products in the coming years, not just aluminium.
EPD's have been developed to offer a fair and unbiased view of products which enable a user to make an informed choice.
EPD's will also ensure continued improvement in the products environmental performance.
CAB also launched their full 2008 programme which starts at the Lowry in Manchester in February with an exclusive members review by Robert Palmer of his latest 'Aluminium in Commercial Glazing Markets in Great Britain' report.
New for 2008 is a series of half day contract seminars for all members.
