Carillion firmly on the sustainability map
An eco-friendly building is helping to put Carillion firmly on the national sustainability map for both Design and Construction after winning praise from government ministers.
As part of a larger scheme to allow more water to be treated, Carillion has been appointed by AWS to construct new lagoons both on land and within the reservoir to provide new habitats for the migratory birds.
The new lagoons will be constructed within environmentally sensitive areas (SSSI, RAMSAR and SPA's) over a three year period with work limited to late winter, spring and summer to minimise the environmental impacts and avoid disturbing migratory birds.
The GBP12 million project began in February this year with the enabling works and Carillion Civil Engineering is due to finish in 2010.
Mike Whibley, Regional Manager for Carillion Civil Engineering said: "We're delighted to be carrying out work for Anglian Water".
"Carillion is a leader in sustainability and having the works marked by the renowned broadcaster and wildlife expert Sir David Attenborough is an honour.".
