Event organisers CALA Finance look at the impact of legislative reform on small and medium sized house builders.

A special event being held in Glasgow in November will give small and medium sized residential developers the opportunity to learn more about proposed changes to the planning process, which will affect the way in which they work The seminar, entitled "Planning Reform - Opportunity or Threat?", will outline how the proposed Planning (Scotland) Bill will impact on small and medium sized property developers

So far, most comment and debate on the legislation has focused on its overarching impact, but this event will address concerns and issues for this specific industry group.

The legislation, which was introduced to the Scottish Parliament in December 2005, has been heralded as the most fundamental and comprehensive reform of the planning system since it was created in 1948.

It will introduce new rules for dealing with planning applications - with different procedures depending on whether they are of national, major, local or minor significance.

In addition, community consultation will take on a key role in the planning process and local development plans will need to be updated on a regular basis.

Tim Barraclough, the Scottish Executive's Head of Planning Policy and Casework at the Scottish Executive will be the keynote speaker at the event.

He will be joined by James Ross from event organisers CALA Finance and Allan Lundmark of industry body Homes for Scotland.

James Ross, Managing Director (Scotland) of CALA Finance said: "Knowing what changes are proposed in the legislation - and what they will mean in real terms- is essential for all small and medium sized house builders if they are to prepare for the bill's introduction".

"This seminar will give an insight into the legislation, and how it will mean real opportunity if responded to in the right way." 'Planning Reform - Opportunity or Threat?' is a free seminar being held from 6pm on Tuesday 21st November at the Lighthouse on Mitchell Lane in Glasgow.
