Decra Roof Systems fit for new health centre
The roof on the new Primary Care Unit is a warm roof construction including over 1400m2 of Stratos tiles plus traditional angle shaped ridging, hip ventilation and Decra 700 breather membrane.
A down turned front edge and an upturned rear edge ensure a strong and unique fixing method, resulting in an overlapping and interlocking roof covering.
This virtually eliminates the risk of any public liability injury from slipped tiles, wind uplift and virtually rules out the possibility of vandalism or forced entry - making it ideal for school refurbishment projects.
Weathertight performance at low pitch.
St Ibers Primary School in Castlebridge, County Wexford, had a water ingress problem practically from the day the original 17.5 degree pitch man-made slate roof was installed.
The school and the Local Authority set out jointly to remedy the problem.
Taking the advice of David McHugh Architects, the previous roof was stripped and just over 900m2 of Decra Stratos tiles used to replace the slate.
The building envelope has a strong red and white finish and charcoal grey tiles were chosen to complement the colours and provide a solid look to the pitched roof and vertically on the walls.
Decra tiles are easy to cut and shape accurately using a guillotine or snips, enabling a simple and neat installation at raking abutments.
Even more importantly, there is no disruptive noise or dust created by angle grinders or other mechanical cutters and it was possible to install part of the roof while the children were at school.
Secure protection of the monopitch ridges was achieved by using Decra Stratos Ridge Caps.
Hip Caps and Barge Closures maintain the integrity of the roof at gable ends and verges and as no mortar is used, there are no maintenance concerns regarding mortar failure.
Dry fixing means no weather interruptions.
Charcoal Grey Decra Stratos tiles were in demand again, this time in Northern Ireland, at Pond Park Primary School where the man-made slate roof was in serious need of refurbishment.

The installation-involved 2200m2 of Stratos tiles, together with integral eaves, ridge and hip ventilation units.
These units are designed to provide suitable levels of ventilation, preventing the formation of condensation, which might result in damage to the roof structure.
To meet Building Regulations, Decra ventilation units are available in various sizes for roofs with insulation at ceiling joist or rafter level.
With their successful track record, Decra have a high rate of planning acceptability in the educational sector and for complete peace of mind the company offer a 30-year weather security guarantee on all installations.
