At the M and E Exhibition, Dehn (UK) is featuring its comprehensive ranges of lightning and surge protection solutions, with particular emphasis on the challenges provided by new UK standards.

'The impending replacement of the British Standard BS6651 by the new BS EN 62305 parts 1-5 imposes more detailed guidelines on designers and installers of lightning and surge-protection systems', comments Ian Johnson, Sales Director of Dehn (UK).

"Fortunately, at Dehn we have been working in Europe with the original IEC62305 standard for several years, which makes us uniquely able to advise customers on these new requirements".

Among the new products being featured at the event is the DEHNbloc Maxi family of lightning current arresters.

These single-pole devices are ideally suited to use in exposed locations or in harsh industrial environments, and are compatible with Dehn's existing DEHNguard Red/Line surge arresters, offering a flexible surge-protection solution independent of cable length and without the need for additional decoupling coils.

Also new is the DEHNguard TH275 LI surge arrester, which incorporates a technique known as pro-active thermo control to give an early warning of potential failures.

The unit features a 3-stage green/yellow/red indicator along with a floating changeover contact that provides a remote signalling function, informing the user of the system's status.

If there is any risk that the varistor structure might be irreversibly damaged due to an increased energy load, the user is informed by the yellow indicator and the remote signalling function.

The surge-protection module can then be exchanged for another unit before the installation becomes unprotected.
