Dehn UK is introducing a number of major new products in its ranges of lightning and surge protection systems at the MandE Building Services Event.

At the 2006 MandE Building Services Event, Dehn UK is introducing a number of major new products in its ranges of lightning and surge protection systems A significant new development is the introduction of modular versions of several products in the Dehn Red/Line Series of surge-protection devices, including the DEHNventil combined lightning current and Type 1 surge arrester, the DEHNguard Type 2 surge arrester, and the DEHNrail Type 3 surge arrester

Also new in the Red/Line family are two additions to the DEHNbloc family of Type 1 lightning-current arresters: the DEHNbloc 3 255H 3-pole device for protecting power-supply systems, and the DEHNbloc NH100 255H unit for use in industrial power distribution boards.

An important addition to Dehn's Yellow/Line range of lightning-current arresters is the Blitzductor XT compact combined lighting and surge arrester, which combines high lightning-current discharge capability with a number of new features to improve its efficiency and ease of use.

The new device features a lightning current discharge capacity of up to 10 kA (10/350 microseconds), and provides energy co-ordinated protection of 2-, 3- or 4-pole interfaces in applications such as measurement and control equipment, building services or telecommunication systems.

Also featured is the DEHNconductor lightning protection system, which addresses the traditional concerns that architects have about the aesthetic implications of downconductors on the outside of buildings.

DEHNconductor achieves its high level of protection by the use of an innovative conductor development known as HVI.

To prevent 'creepage' discharges, the new conductor has a special external coating that enables it to 'direct' high lightning impulse voltages to a reference potential by linking it to the building's equipotential bonding structure.

As a result, it can be mounted within wall cavities or inside the building.

Dehn is also emphasising the challenges provided by new UK standards: in particular, the replacement of the British Standard BS6651 by the new BSEN62305 parts 1-5, which imposes more detailed guidelines on the designers and installers of lightning and surge-protection systems.

The new standard calls for much closer integration between external lightning protection and internal surge protection systems: an area where Dehn - as a supplier of both types of equipment - is well placed to serve.
