Urgent need for greener buildings
Climate change warnings highlight the urgent need for greener buildings according to the Devon Sustainable Building Initiative.
The event is free to attend and is aimed primarily at small building contractors and small design practices from across Devon.
It is often difficult for these groups to spare the money or the time to attend events on safety or sustainability, both of which are key issues for the industry.
This event is specifically designed to be useful, interesting and easy to attend for these groups - as well as being free of charge, it is not too long, is organised by the industry for the industry and includes an exhibition of trade stands.

ABI Unravels The Social Housing Review
ABI Building Data Limited has launched a new title that is heralded as a one-stop resource centre for contacts, major developments and essential information on the UK Social Housing initiative.
It is organised by a partnership of companies, industry associations, local government and not-for-profit organisations including the CITB, Devon County Council, the Devon Sustainable Building Initiative, Envirowise, Exeter City Council, Faber Maunsell, the Federation of Master Builders, Future Foundations, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Mowlem, Noble Group and Pearce Construction under the banner of the Working Well Together campaign.
All of the organisers, speakers and workshop presenters give their time free of charge to ensure that there is no cost to attend the event.
"Smaller building contractors and people involved in smaller construction projects often do not benefit from the same level of training and advice on safety and sustainability as larger companies and projects," said Richard Thorne, Associate Director at Faber Maunsell and one of the organisers of the event, "so it should be no surprise that they are more likely to suffer from work related health problems and accidents".
"The feedback from people who attended our previous events tells us these days do make a difference so I urge contractors, clients and designers to come along on the 4 April." "With increasing regulation and standards from government at a national, regional and local level and growing demand from consumers for sustainable buildings, sustainability is becoming an ever more important issue for the construction industry to focus on," said Gareth Walton, Director of the Devon Sustainable Building Initiative, who also helped organise the event.
"The good news for the industry is that being more sustainable can often result in cost savings and safer materials used on site," continued Walton.
"Contractors, designers and clients that attend the event will have access to free advice on how they can make their businesses more profitable, more sustainable and even safer." The event is being held on Tuesday 4 April in the University of Exeter's Peter Chalk Centre and runs from 7.45am - 2.30pm, with a range of optional workshops from 2.30 - 4.30pm.
As well as small building contractor and design practices, the event is also open to client organisations.
People wishing to attend should contact the Federation of Master Builders on 0117 973 6891.
