ABI Unravels The Social Housing Review
ABI Building Data Limited has launched a new title that is heralded as a one-stop resource centre for contacts, major developments and essential information on the UK Social Housing initiative.
Chaired by broadcaster and designer Charlie Luxton and featuring architect Bill Dunster as keynote speaker, the Sustainable Building - the good, the bad and the reality conference brings together leading practitioners of sustainable building from the South West and beyond to share their experience and knowledge from real-life case studies with delegates.
Sustainable construction case studies covered by the speakers include the award-winning Core building at Eden Exeter City Council's new offices and the National Trust's HQ in Swindon, which has won a RIBA award, as well as a timber frame/straw bale house, a new sustainable school and a housing development.
The speakers will look at the sustainable materials, tools and technologies they used, the costs and benefits of sustainability and how it was measured in their projects, allowing delegates to take away useful practical learning which they can apply to their particular project or discipline.
"With increasing regulation and standards from government at a national, regional and local level and growing demand for sustainable buildings", said DSBI Director Gareth Walton, "the sustainability of our buildings is becoming ever more important".
"It's crystal clear from an environmental point of view that we need buildings that are much more sustainable, both in construction and use," said Linda Watson, Principal Lecturer at the University of Plymouth's Centre for Sustainable Futures.
"This conference will help show how it's done and is not to be missed if you're involved in designing, specifying, building or refurbishing buildings".
The conference is supported by the Association for Environment Conscious Building (AECB), CITB Construction Skills, the Eden Project, Future Foundations, the Government Office for the South West (GOSW), the Learning and Skills Council (LSC), Regen SW, the SW Regional Development Agency (SWRDA) and the SW Regional Assembly.
The conference runs from 10am to 4.30pm and costs £90 to attend.
It will be of interest to architects, building professionals, developers, clients, councillors and local authority officers.
