D R Services creates lobby at Cavendish Square

A D R Services product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Feb 4, 2010

D R Services has undertaken the design, manufacture and installation of a bespoke inner lobby area as part of a new build project in London.

The lobby provides views of the streetscape while maintaining comfort levels inside the reception area to the building.

D R Services created the draught lobby within the entrance hall behind the new facade of 9 Cavendish Square on behalf of Mansell Construction.

D R Services was awarded the contract due to its ability to source and install a single central section of glass measuring 4x2.5m and weighing 320kg.

Fully supported on three sides by special channels set into the wall, floor and ceiling and the fourth side supported by specialised point settings, the 12mm toughened glass provides support and rigidity for other pieces of glass that frame two pairs of automatic glass doors and their side-lights.

In addition to providing all the glazing elements for the draught lobby, D R Services also undertook the automation of one set of timber doors and one set of glass doors, interfacing with transparent elements of the installation, and coordinated with other contractors working in the same area.

While D R Services is frequently asked to carry out grit blasting of glass for privacy or to personalise them, the only additions in this case were the fixing of dusted crystal film disks at 900mm and 1,500mm from the ground for safety reasons.
