Fabric innovation from Saint-Gobain at Techtextil

A Saint-Gobain Group product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Jun 22, 2009

Saint-Gobain Technical Fabrics will take part in the Techtextil trade show, the international meeting place for technical and non-woven glass textile professionals.

As an essential player in glass-fiber based materials production, Saint-Gobain Technical Fabrics (SGTF) will once again take part in the Techtextil 2009 trade show, to be held June 16-18 in Frankfurt, Germany.

SGTF will be presenting its latest innovations for an incredibly varied range of sectors, from industry to construction, from the durable stabilisation of paved surfaces to internal insulation and reinforcement for cement-based products.

SGTF will present the GlasGrid product line, which provides solutions that perform well under any challenge to fit out heavily-traveled areas, such as highways, roads, airport tarmacs, parking lots, etc.

The newest addition to the line is GlasPave, a unique reinforcement mesh that includes a polyester surfacing.

SGTF is also proud to be introducing Bayex laid scrims, its customized reinforcement solutions, and SoftTouch glass veils, designed for glass wool surfacing, retaining its thermal and acoustic performance while remaining environmentally friendly.

GlasPave for durable surfacing For the durable reinforcement of roadways - roads, highways, airport runways and more - SGTF has developed the GlasGrid solutions, used worldwide by public works professionals.

By drawing on the exemplary mechanical properties of glass fiber -- high resistance and low elongation -- combined with SGTF's chemical expertise to effectively protect them from outside stresses and make them auto-adhesive, these easily-recyclable products allow for the superior repair of cracked roads, but have also been shown to be equally high-performing in ensuring the longevity of new road surfaces.

In order to round out its line of reinforcements dedicated to the road industry, and more particularly for roads with light traffic, SGTF has just launched GlasPave, a new reinforcement solution resulting from a unique combination of glass meshes incorporated into two layers of high-performance non-woven polyester, combining both efficiency and economy.

GlasPave 25, a genuine waterproof barrier, efficiently protects the primary structure of pavement from potential water infiltration.

Its excellent mechanical properties also provide it with outstanding performance in delaying cracking of surfaces in the construction of low-to medium traffic areas.

This product is sized to optimize installation, especially on curves.

GlasPave 25 is available in two widths (1.17m and 2m) and in two lengths (228.6m and 914.4m).

A complete laid scrim product line for customized reinforcement solutions SGTF's Bayex laid scrim, composed of continuous strands that are interlocked and bonded at the intersection points by a chemical binder, are used in different fields from floor coverings to plaster or cement boards.

Bayex laid scrims are intended, in particular, to reinforce construction materials, offering dimensional stability and mechanical strength.

In the floor-covering industry, laid scrims are used notably for their excellent dimensional stability and their resistance to puncture and tearing.

In the field of reinforcement of cement-based or gypsum products, Bayex laid scrim products provide flexural and impact resistance, as well as increased durability.

For more specific uses, SGTF also designs light laid scrims that allow reinforcement of packaging, composite materials (pipes and tanks), flexible membranes (boat sails and tarps) and cleaning products (sponges, medical clothing and towelettes).

Thanks to its cutting-edge technology, SGTF also offers design of custom products, to meet the specific technical needs of each of its clients.

Bayex laid scrims can be manufactured with all types of fibers: glass, polyester or high-performance aramid.

SoftTouch: Glass veil for surfacing mineral wools Mineral wools are traditional insulators that have been installed in buildings for many years for acoustic and thermal insulation or for fire protection.

They meet the requirements of the various construction regulations for their high performance and ease of use.

In order to preserve and reinforce the intrinsic qualities of these insulations, SGTF offers industrial manufacturers a complete range of glass veils, composed of uniformly-distributed glass fibers, bound by organic additives.

SGTF, which is constantly searching for innovative solutions, has just launched a new product, SoftTouch, a soft-to-the-touch glass veil intended notably for surfacing mineral wool.

In addition to this soft finishing, SoftTouch glass veil complies completely with the acoustic, thermal and fire-resistance performance of mineral wools and even anticipates future health and safety standards with its new formaldehyde-free composition.

Non-rotting, flexible and mechanically resistant, this latest new SGTF product makes mineral wools tear resistant and its easy cutting facilitates product installation.

It is available in 1.3m width and 2.500m length, in white or yellow.
