Dynamic, specialist contractor Dudley's has completed one of its tightest deadline projects for long standing client Tesco Customers were not left without a supermarket for long as the old Co-op store in Cam, Gloucestershire was converted to a Tesco store in just 17 days

The high profile project is the latest of several complex and time sensitive Tesco refurbishments undertaken by Dudley's.

The Cam store renovation included an extension to the front of the building to create a customer services area and an extension to the back for storage space as well as the addition of a new stand alone cash machine unit.

The existing petrol station was demolished to allow the current car park to be extended allowing disabled and parent and child parking areas to be situated adjacent to the store entrance.

The site was subsequently landscaped and the external boundaries redecorated with new trolley bays added.

New service yard gates were fitted along with a new cage marshalling area in the bulk store.

A temporary post office was also established within the grounds of the store, as this facility had previously been offered at the Co-op.

The interior fit included reconfiguring staff areas to include a new cash office, sales room, training room, file maintenance centre, canteen and staff changing rooms.

An air link to take cash from till areas to the secured cash office was also installed.

Customers will arrive via a new entrance and will be greeted by a revamped retail space which has been updated with new shelving lay-outs, a bakery and chilled sections.

The extent of the refurbishment meant that all doors and frames were renewed and suspended ceilings, upgraded lighting, restored flooring and painting were required throughout.

Mike Dudley, managing director, Dudley's said, "This was a very challenging project for Dudley's due to the tight time constraints, a project of this nature usually takes many weeks if not months to complete".

"As we have now gained extensive experience of executing projects of this type for Tesco, we were in a good position to get the job done on time".

"The team worked quickly and efficiently to ensure the deadline was met and the job was completed in just 17 days".

"We hope that the successful completion of the Cam store continues to demonstrate our ability to cope with the most challenging projects as well as further strengthening our 35 year relationship with Tesco.".
