Dudley has been appointed by retailer ALDI stores ltd to transform three existing Kwik Save stores in South Wales

Newport-based specialist contractor, Dudley's has been appointed by retailer ALDI stores ltd to transform three existing Kwik Save stores in South Wales into modern ALDI stores as part of its expansion plans in the Principality.

The works at the three stores in Tonypandy, Bridgend and Risca worth over GBP1million each, involved constructing a new extension to house a dock loader for deliveries, new roof, aluminium shopfront and windows fitted by Dudley's Architectural Aluminium division.

Internal works included new flooring, partition walls and decorations to the store to leave the shop as a finished shell ready for fit out.

The Car Parks have also been upgraded.

ALDI's expansion plans include 11 more stores throughout South Wales which are due to open in 2007.

The work is part of a larger plan to open 1,500 stores throughout the UK, prior to the construction of a GBP35million regional head office in Cardiff, scheduled for opening in 2010.

Chris Catley, Commercial Director at Dudley's said, "Dudley's has vast experience of construction in a retail environment and this has helped us to successfully work on the ALDI in South Wales".

"We are pleased to be working with ALDI and hope to continue this relationship into 2007, helping it to expand throughout the UK".

Jonathan Neale, Property Director at ALDI adds, "The popularity of ALDI in South Wales has grown in recent years as we launch our new high quality ranges, which have in turn necessitated an aggressive store expansion programme".

"Due to its reputation and experience we chose Dudley's to carry out the construction element of the first three stores".

"The works have been carried out to a high standard and we look forward to working with them in the future".

The stores successfully opened in November and Dudley's has been appointed to work on a further four stores throughout the UK starting in January 2007, in addition to extension work on existing stores.
