DuPont Corian major contribution to
conversion
DuPont Corian makes a major contribution to the conversion of multi-award winning Lymm Water Tower.
An architectural labour of love, the conversion of the grade II listed Lymm Water Tower by Russell and Janette Harris has turned a derelict Victorian stone landmark into "an essay in calm modernism." Throughout the long, complex, but ultimately fruitful process, the intention was to create a design-led minimalist family home that was also "happy in its historical context" The results are stunning, and while respecting the building's heritage, a number of modern materials have enabled the Harris's to achieve the clean, white, pared-down look that they were aiming for

Corian, the original composite solid surface, invented and made only by DuPont, was specified for a number of special applications throughout the tower.
The house has been designed to make the most of natural light and its movements through the day.
The spacious double-height kitchen benefits from the morning sun and features a dramatic, stand-alone, Kitchen Island clad in Glacier White Corian.
Measuring 4000mm x 1300mm, the island also features a seamlessly integrated Corian sink and an inset hob.
The silky smooth Corian surfaces work in harmony with the handle-less scheme of the kitchen area, and the surface is repeated in the adjoining dining area on the custom-made dining table.
Corian also features in the downstairs cloakroom, in a large, bespoke, trough-style basin, and again in the winter living room, as a custom-made coffee table with integral vases.
In a clever and practical finishing touch, Corian has also been used to clad the window sills.
The strength, stain-resistance and easy-maintenance of the material make it a smart choice for any area prone to frequent usage or spills.
Russell Harris explains why he chose Corian: "I have always loved Corian and jumped at the chance to use it in the tower".
"What's fantastic about Corian is that it gets better with age".
"Everything from our huge 4m long Corian island to the much smaller window sills work brilliantly".
"We chose a simple white, which compliments the stark, minimalist interior perfectly".
"We love the way Corian can be curved and shaped".
"Corian is without doubt one of the major and most successful materials in the project".
"The fabricators Whitehall also deserve a mention for helping us to realise our designs.".
