Building on Science: DuPont solutions for sustainability in the built environment make a significant contribution to BRE Offsite 2007.

An extraordinary range of advanced, high-performance products from DuPont are involved in BRE Offsite 2007, the bi-annual event at the UK's Building Research Establishment, which this year focuses on sustainability In a variety of applications - from breakthrough systems for energy-saving to strong, beautiful surfacing solutions and developments to enhance safety and durability - over 50 products demonstrate the significant contribution that this global science company can make to the modern built environment

Tom Powell - Vice-President and General Manager, DuPont Building Innovations comments: "Sustainable growth is our mission as a company".

"This means creating shareholder value while decreasing our environmental footprint throughout the value chain".

"We have recently announced a new set of sustainability goals for 2015 which raise the bar on the environmental footprint reductions we have already achieved".

"Many of our new goals are market-focused revenue and RandD targets that will help our customers be more sustainable".

"Within our Building Innovations business, we are focused on bringing the global building industry solutions that integrate safety, durability, beauty, and energy efficiency".

"Products such as DuPont Energain and DuPont Climate Systems are perfectly aligned with our business strategy, our sustainability goals, and the needs of our customers." For Jay Macdonald, DuPont UK Business Manager for Construction Industry Team, the BRE Offsite 2007/Innovation park project presents an ideal opportunity to illustrate the innovative and versatile nature of the company's range of products, "Our contribution to Offsite 2007 embodies DuPont's commitment to deliver 'sustainability through science'".

DuPont products feature in all the permanent demonstration houses being built at the site, and also as part of a school building project, in landscaping applications and even as graphics and apparel.

These include: Energy-saving, indoor comfort and protection of the building envelope:.

DuPont Energain - Stewart Milne House (also in the Re-Thinking school).

This is the first UK installation for this very exciting new product, recently a Finalist in the Carbon Trust Awards.

DuPont Energain is a radical new concept in thermal mass materials that could revolutionise the way the world constructs.

Suitable for "low-inertia" structures such as timber, steel or aluminium framed buildings, this Phase Change Material can make a significant contribution to the reduction of the CO2 footprint of a building.

By stabilizing the effects on room temperature at both ends of the scale, DuPont Energain significantly decreases both air conditioning costs (by an average of 35%) and heating costs (up to 15%).

The material offers further benefits in terms of comfort as it minimises temperature peaks in a building by up to 7degC.

A light-weight and easy-to-install panel in a 5mm thickness, DuPont Energain enables architects and designers to build responsible, innovative, cost-efficient buildings.

DuPont Climate Systems - Stewart Milne House.

DuPont Climate Systems offer a breakthrough solution for the building envelope, allowing savings in energy costs of up to 15% plus a more comfortable indoor climate year round.

The system comprises two advanced new materials: Tyvek Enercor metallised breather membranes for roofs and walls, which combine high reflectivity (low emissivity surfaces) with superior moisture diffusion capacity, and DuPont AirGuard, a highly reflective metallised vapour control layer with an even lower emissivity of approx.

5%.

The materials are designed to work together with traditional insulation products to create an air-tight building envelope, providing excellent protection against external weather conditions, interstitial condensation and internal thermal losses.

The combination of Tyvek Enercor and DuPont AirGuard boosts the insulation performance by up to 20%.

Tyvek Enercor also blocks up to 85% of radiant heat in summer, helping to maintain interior comfort levels in conjunction with proper ventilation.

Although sophisticated in terms of technology, DuPont Climate Systems are simple to install and suitable for either new build or renovation projects.

DuPont Tyvek is also featured as building envelope membranes in several other applications and in at least 5 of the 7 permanent buildings on the Innovation Park - it is also used as a printing surface (using DuPont inks and printing technologies) in various graphic applications.

Products from DuPont for Photovoltaic systems, which harness and convert energy from the sun, are also installed in two locations at Offsite 2007 Robust Interior Surfaces and Finishes.

DuPont Corian - Stewart Milne House, Wilmott Dixon / Re-thinking School Much-favoured by architects and designers for its outstanding versatility, sleek aesthetics and robust performance, DuPont Corian also offers sustainability in the form of durability, renewability, re-usability and a long lifecycle.

A completely solid and homogenous composite of acrylic resin and natural minerals (ATH - giving further usefulness to a by-product of aluminium processing), Corian is available in over 100 colours and suitable for a wide variety of surfacing applications in both residential and commercial environments.

Corian is joined in a way that creates a visibly and functionally seamless finish and can be thermoformed into almost any shape desired.

It is non-porous, stain-resistant and hygienic, and has received GREENGUARD certification as it does not have any negative impact on indoor air quality.

Corian features as kitchen worksurfaces and integrated sinks in the Stewart Milne house and Re-Thinking school, plus forms a stunning basin and vanity unit in Grape Green in the cloakrooms of the school building.

Also featured: SentryGlas Plus and SentryGlas Expressions - safety glass that offers both peace of mind and the wow factor, as the laminate inter-layer can also be printed or coloured to stunning effect.

Used for a stairway in the Hanson house and two balconies in the Stewart Milne house.

DuPont Surlyn resins, which offer increased strength and an attractive finish and feel, are used on a variety of products and fixtures, making them also more hygienic and easy to keep clean.

DuPont Surlyn is often used for flooring.

DuPont Powder Coatings have interior applications at OFFSITE 2007 to both protect metal surfaces (Alesta AP) and people (Alesta AM) with their Antimicrobial coatings on door handles, surfaces etc.

DuPont Titanium Technologies are present in the form of key ingredients in paints, varnishes and window frames.

Landscaping and exterior surfaces.

A range of advanced DuPont geotextiles, for weed and root control, drainage and pondlining that can minimise the need for chemical intervention in landscaped gardens are being used at Offsite 2007.

Products include DuPont Plantex, DuPont Xavan, DuPont Ground Grid/Honeycomb, DuPont Root Barrier.

Surface protection products for roofs and also for concrete paving are part of the scheme.

While high-performance architectural fabrics applications using DuPont Kevlar and DuPont Teflon are also on display.

Safety and Protection.

DuPont has an ongoing commitment and an outstanding reputation for safety and a range of safety and protection products such as fire extinguishers and protective apparel are part of the Offsite project.

DuPont's Safety Resources International consultancy service, who already work with companies on the Innovation Site, will also be available.
