Batimat 2007: DuPont presents high performance and sustainable solutions for architecture, interior design, building and construction.

A wide range of materials and products from DuPont delivering high-performance and sustainable solutions, both in terms of functionality and aesthetics, will be presented at Batimat 2007.

With the focus this year on environmental sustainability, Batimat will take place from November 5th to November 10th, at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles.

In a variety of applications, from innovative energy-saving systems to safety enhancers and beautiful, durable surfacing solutions, this overall offer will demonstrate the significant contribution that DuPont can make to the modern built environment.

Energy-saving, indoor comfort and protection of the building envelope.

DuPont Energain (www.energain.dupont.com): a long-lasting thermal mass solution for environmentally sustainable buildings.

This new concept in Phase Change Materials could play a significant role in the evolution of construction techniques.

Suitable for "low-inertia" structures such as timber, steel or aluminium framed buildings, this ground-breaking product from DuPont can help to reduce interior temperature peaks by as much as 7 degrees C, optimizing comfort levels and helping to save energy.

Energain significantly decreases air conditioning costs (by an average of 35%) and heating costs (about 15%) and can therefore make a meaningful contribution to reducing the carbon footprint of a building.

Energain is available in light-weight and easy-to-install panels measuring1m x 1.2 m in a 5 mm thickness.

DuPont Climate Systems offer an innovative solution for the building envelope, allowing savings in energy costs of up to 15% plus a more comfortable indoor climate year round.

The system is based on two new, advanced materials: DuPont Tyvek Enercor metallised breather membranes for roofs and walls, which combine high reflectivity (low emissivity surfaces) with superior moisture diffusion capacity, and DuPont AirGuard, a highly reflective metallised vapour control layer with an emissivity of, possibly, below 10%.

These two materials are designed to work together with traditional insulation products to create an air-tight building envelope, providing excellent protection against external weather conditions, interstitial condensation and internal thermal losses.

The combination of DuPont Tyvek Enercor and DuPont AirGuard boosts the insulation performance by up to 15%.

DuPont Tyvek Enercor also blocks up to 85% of radiant heat in summer, helping to maintain interior comfort levels in conjunction with proper ventilation.

Although sophisticated in terms of technology, DuPont Climate Systems are simple to install in both roof and wall applications and are suitable for either new build or renovation projects.

The stand will also highlight the superior performance of the standard range of DuPont Tyvek building membranes, distinctive in being the only single layer products on the market - and which have helped to influence the way buildings are planned, designed and built (www.construction.tyvek.com).

2007 marks the 40th anniversary of Tyvek, a pioneering, 100% recyclable, nonwoven material with a unique and robust micro-fibre structure that provides an excellent combination of barrier protection, durability and breathability.

The initial discovery was made when a DuPont researcher recognized the potential value of a high strength white polyethylene fiber formed in samples taken from a new DuPont high-density polyethylene process.

A program was established to develop the new material into an engineered sheet structure (later called Tyvek) combining the best characteristics of paper, film and fabric.

The material is produced today at DuPont facilities in Richmond (Virginia, USA) and Luxembourg.

A completely solid and homogenous composite of acrylic resin and natural minerals, DuPont Corian is available in over 100 colours and suitable for a wide variety of surfacing applications in both residential and commercial environments.

DuPont Corian is joined in a way that creates a visibly and functionally seamless finish and can be thermoformed into almost any shape desired.

It is non-porous, stain-resistant and hygienic.

In 2007, Corian too is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its first commercialisation: 40 years of success based on scientific expertise, continuous development, technological innovation and a highly productive and creative dialogue with the global community of architects and designers.

The possibilities for DuPont Corian will also be featured within a booth at "La Matiere Autrement " (Hall 7.3 as well), a space dedicated to architects and designers.

DuPont Zodiaq - a fast growing surfacing solution for residential and commercial markets (www.zodiaq.com) - will be also highlighted on the stand.

Zodiaq is a premium decorative surfacing material that combines the strength and beauty of natural quartz with a palette of radiant colours and consistency of structures and tones.

It lends itself to a wide range of horizontal and vertical applications.

Zodiaq gives architects and designers the chance to create distinctive designs in a durable, robust, stone-based material without having to compromise on colour choice or performance.

Both DuPont Corian and DuPont Zodiaq have received hygiene certification from LGA QualiTest , the prestigious independent product testing company.

Undergoing a stringent range of tests to assess their stability against bacteria and fungi, their ease of cleaning, and their design rating from a hygiene standpoint, DuPont Corian and DuPont Zodiaq provided a superior performance to a number of conventional materials for furnishing applications.

The GREENGUARD Environmental Institute has designated DuPont Corian solid surfaces and DuPont Zodiaq quartz surfaces, as well as the related sealants and adhesives from DuPont, as GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified.

The GREENGUARD certification ensures that products comply with strict chemical and particle emission criteria for indoor air quality.

This further demonstrates the commitment by DuPont to provide building specifiers with high-performing products while meeting stringent industry standards for interior environments.

Moreover, DuPont Corian and DuPont Zodiaq have received the GREENGUARD for Children and Schools Certification, a separate product standard for low-emitting interior building materials, furnishings and finish systems used in educational environments.

On the same stand, DuPont will present their four latest innovations in the DuPont Alesta range of coatings (www.alesta.dupont.com): Alesta Cool improves the reflections of infra-red rays, reducing the temperature of painted surfaces and the amount of energy needed to ensure proper air-conditioning to the interior environments of buildings; Alesta Anodic is a collection of high-performance coatings providing an anodised look, without using lead or other heavy metals - and an alternative to conventional anodisation with its environmental issues; Alesta Lignacoat is the solvent-free solution for MDF 100% substrates, an alternative to conventional solvent-based solutions; plus Alesta AM, which is an antimicrobial coating contributing to the fight against bacteria.
