To mark its 50th anniversary, Durapipe UK, organised a year of fundraising, which raised over GBP 6,000 to donate to local projects and charities.
Various ideas were generated by Durapipe UK employees for ways to celebrate 50 years of the business, including a party and a day out for the staff, but with over 70% of the company's workforce living in the local area, Durapipe UK decided to give something back to the community and made the decision to undertake a multitude of fundraising activities.
Throughout 2004, staff at Durapipe UK organised events such as a five-a-side football competition, a quiz night, skittles evening, dragon boat race and one enthusiastic employee demonstrated great dedication to the cause by competing in the Great North Run.
The entire workforce pulled together and helped contribute to raising the money and as a result Durapipe UK wanted the input of all staff as to how they thought the raised money should be distributed.
Following all employees suggesting various community schemes and charities, the final amount was distributed across a selection of 11 organisations.
Andy Bews, HumanResources Manager for Durapipe UK, coordinated the fundraising activity and comments: "We wanted to do something worthwhile to mark our 50th anniversary and give something back to the local community, so raising money for local groups seemed like the ideal choice".
"We are all delighted with the amount of money that we have been able to donate to various projects and the good that it will hopefully achieve." Durapipe UK has always been keen to support local organisations, but the fundraising activities of 2004 has left staff feeling positive and enthusiastic about helping other people and as a result, has encouraged employees to continue fundraising activity for alternative, national schemes.
Already, 2005 has seen Durapipe UK raise money for the Tsunami appeal, MacMillan Cancer Relief and Comic Relief, something that is planned to continue and become an important part of the business.
