John, who has been employed as a Trainee Project Engineer in the Research and Development department of Durapipe UK for four years, beat off fierce competition from industry professionals across the UK to be one of the five that reached the final stages in this category.

The trainee of the year award is designed to recognise individuals who are gaining their training whist in the workplace.

There was strict criteria set out, which the candidates needed to meet to be in with a chance of being considered for the award.

In his bid to win, John was required to submit a statement from his employer, demonstrate his achievements within his course and attend an interview, undertaken by a panel of judges.

John's excellent achievements across both his ONC and HND courses in Polymer Technology - consistent distinction grades - impressed the judges, along with the exceptional progression he has made at Durapipe UK, where he has now taken on extra responsibility to manage a number of development projects.

Commenting on his success, John said: "I'm delighted to have got down to the final five in such a popular category, the standard of applicants was extremely high and the work and effort that I have put into both my college courses and my role at Durapipe UK has paid off".

"I am looking forward to continuing my work at Durapipe UK and am excited about the challenges ahead".

Mick Bull, Technical Manager for Durapipe UK also praised John for his achievement: "We are all extremely pleased for John, he thoroughly deserves to have been shortlisted for the award".

"His dedication and excellent attitude towards his work has impressed us all and we are expecting him to take on new responsibilities with his usual high level of enthusiasm as he progresses within the company.".
