Vulcathene graduates at the University of Glasgow
Vulcathene Chemical Drainage System from Durapipe UK has been installed within the University of Glasgow.
The Vulcathene Chemical Drainage System from Durapipe UK has been installed within the University of Glasgow, as part of a development scheme to improve the medical research facilities available at the university.
The new development includes the construction of three new buildings within the university grounds sited across Glasgow.
Each building houses laboratories for both teaching and research purposes and Vulcathene has been installed to offer safe chemical drainage for all new build requirements.
Vulcathene had been previously used by contractors Hulley and Kirkwood and as an innovative leader in the chemical waste drainage industry for over 50 years, Vulcathene was specified to meet the complex and varied chemical drainage requirements of all the University of Glasgow's new laboratories.
The new facilities at the University of Glasgow are used to teach and research various subjects including Botanics, Medical, Biomedical and Cardiovascular and as a result, the University is unable to identify all the potential chemicals used in single or multiple processes.
The new build specification therefore required a drainage system that could safely transport any type of chemical combination through the system.
As a result, the Vulcathene system was specified to meet the functional, strict standards and budgetary requirements of the University of Glasgow.
Providing a completely corrosion resistant plumbing system, the Vulcathene Chemical Drainage System incorporates injection moulded fittings for accuracy and reliability and offers a long lasting, leak free connection that can be refigured without affecting the joint's efficiency.
Offering a one-stop-shop for all laboratory drainage requirements, the Vulcathene system provides laboratory bench items such as wastes, sinks and drip cups, anti-siphon traps and expansion joints, in addition to a comprehensive range of pipe fittings from 38mm up to 102mm.
Commenting on the installation, Kenneth Hay from Contractors Hulley and Kirkwood, said: "Over recent years we have installed the Vulcathene system for various projects and always been happy with the results".
"Glasgow University had strict requirements and the Vulcathene system, which is fully BBA approved for chemical drainage was the ideal solution." "The University cannot identify all the chemical combinations that will be produced during research activities and therefore it was essential to use a material for the drainage system that would not be affected by any type of chemical and the Vulcathene system fully meets these requirements".
The project is due for completion winter 2005.
