Durapipe UK plays its part in food processing

A Durapipe UK product story

Pipework from Durapipe UK has been installed into a food processing plant in the Midlands.

The design and installation of the pipework system was completed by process cooling specialists Pennine Environmental Services on behalf of the food processor.

Pennine turned to Durapipe ABS and Duracool systems for the pipework requirements of a refurbishment at the Midlands processing plant.

New refrigeration systems were being installed into the production room and as a result, Pennine required pipework to carry the molypropolene glycol used in the temperature control production area.

A pipework system was required to be constructed in the production room, which would be on open view.

As a result, Duracool, the pre-insulated ABS pipework system from Durapipe UK was installed into the production room at ceiling level, in sizes ranging up to 110mm.

The design incorporates a free spigot end and includes Easi-strip, which allows the insulation to be trimmed back easily, leaving a clean pipe end for standard solvent weld jointing, resulting in reduced labour time and costs during the installation process.

In addition, because the pipework is on view it was important to find an aesthetically pleasing product and Duracool could offer Pennine and the end client an attractive fully matched system of thermoclick fittings to insulate the joints as the two cases have been designed to match the pre-insulated pipe, giving a consistent finish to the pipework.

Durapipe ABS in sizes ranging up to 160mm was installed into the roof void of the production room as part of the first phase of the project, to offer ease of installation to Pennine.

A long-standing user of Durapipe UK products, Pennine selected the Durapipe ABS system because the lightweight construction of the product makes it an easy system to manage on site.

As it requires no hot work permits or heavy cutting equipment, Durapipe ABS is quicker and easier to install than comparable pipe work, which offered significant labour cost savings and resulted in a reduction in the overall installation cost for the end client.

The possible long-term cost savings that can be achieved by using Durapipe ABS was also a major consideration.

The durable material has exceptional impact strength, and combined with its corrosion free properties and resistance to limescale build-up, ABS can reduce the maintenance and replacement requirements of the pipe work over its lifetime, ultimately reducing life-cycle costings.

Pennine had used Durapipe ABS pipework previously but Duracool was specified following a demonstration at the 2005 Heating and Ventilating Show, as Lynda Thorp from Pennine Environmental Services explains: "We had already specified the Durapipe ABS for the first phase of the project and were looking for a product for the second phase, which had more specific requirements because it was on open view".

"I have used Durapipe products many times so visited their stand to see what they could offer".

"The sales representative was extremely helpful and fully demonstrated the excellent benefits that Duracool could offer us, which made my decision to specify the product".

Durapipe ABS and Duracool systems make up part of an extensive range of pipe and joint solutions from Durapipe UK.
