Westwind stick with Durapipe UK for new factory

GSI Westwind Air Bearings has installed an extensive range of pipework and fittings from Durapipe UK into its new factory in China.

GSI Westwind Air Bearings, a world leader in the design and manufacture of air bearing spindle systems, has installed an extensive range of pipework and fittings from Durapipe UK into its new factory in China.

Air-line Xtra, the compressed air distribution system manufactured by Durapipe UK, has been installed throughout the factory in sizes of 25mm and 50mm, complete with fittings and valves, to carry the compressed air used in the manufacturing of the spindle systems.

A supply of clean, dry, uncontaminated air is imperative to the successful manufacture of the systems and on-going running of the factory.

Air-line Xtra is designed specifically for the conveyance of compressed air and will provide the highest in cleanliness standards.

Manufactured from a specially formulated ABS blend, the smooth, hygienic liner of Air-line Xtra pipework is impressively clean and cannot rust, corrode or form loose scale, so the air remains clean throughout the life of the system.

Air-line Xtra also offered additional benefits to the installers, as the lightweight material is easy to handle on site.

With no threading required and the ability to be jointed by cold solvent welding, Air-line Xtra is also easy to install, ultimately reducing installation time and cost.

Commenting on the installation, Mike Popperwell, Site Manager for GSI Westwind Air Bearings said: "We have got products from Durpaipe UK installed in our factory in the UK and the reliability and high performance properties of the products resulted in us returning to Durapipe UK when we were setting up the factory in China".

"The key requirement for the pipework is that it can keep the compressed air clean and dry, this is necessary to manufacture the spindle systems and if the air becomes contaminated it can cause major problems and become a costly operation to repair the damage".
