Friaphon drainage system from Durapipe UK has been installed in The Elysian, the new landmark building in Cork

At 71 metres high, the 17 storey mixed use development is the tallest building in Cork and consists of 212 apartments, two storeys of office space and five retail units.

As with many multi-occupancy buildings, reducing noise emitted by sanitary installations was a major priority, so Friaphon sound attenuated drainage has been installed for all soil and wastewater drainage requirements.

The Bowen Group chose Friaphon over alternative products on the basis of two key factors; cost savings and its excellent sound attenuation properties.

Friaphon, which is constructed with dual layer technology is a purpose-designed sound reducing drainage system complete with soundproof fittings, so is the ideal solution for this development as noise needs to be kept to an absolute minimum.

Friaphon is also a lower cost alternative to cast iron and lagged plastic; the system does not need to be lagged, and combined with its push fit assembly it makes the installation process quicker and easier.

Contractor Bowen Group specified Friaphon in sizes up to 160mm as the most suitable system for the specific project requirements; commenting on the selection of Friaphon within The Elysian, Bowen Group Project Manager Declan Keating said: "Friaphon came highly recommended as the most efficient product for the Elysian project".

"The product is specifically designed to reduce noise so no lagging was required; combined with the easy assembly technique Friaphon provided a hassle free and economical solution".

The luxury apartments in the Elysian, which range from one bedroom apartments to a luxury four bedroom penthouse, have been completed with the retail and office space due to be occupied by the end of the year.
