DuPont conserves energy in roofs and walls

A DuPont Tyvek product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Oct 2, 2009

DuPont Tyvek breather membrane has been supplied for an energy saving demonstration house in the Mount Everest region.

DuPont Tyvek and the DuPont Energain phase change system are being used in the Tibet energy saving project.

DuPont decided to support the Mount Everest Action environmental initiative to explore the impact of global warming on the region, and how environmentally sustainable construction methods could help preserve natural resources.

The house has strong wind shielding and heat retaining capabilities, both of which reduce the local consumption of natural resources for heating purposes.

DuPont Tyvek and DuPont Energain have been selected for the project to improve the energy gain, storage and savings of the house without increasing the building costs.

DuPont Tyvek is a naturally waterproof, vapour-open single-layer offering durability.

It is used in the roofing system to improve moisture and wind resistance and to better regulate radiant heat and interior temperature.

DuPont Energain panels incorporate a special phase change material that stores and release heat according to temperature fluctuations and have been installed in walls.

DuPont has committed to build another group of demo houses in the area of Qinghai Lake and will also help draft a local energy efficiency building code.
