An environmentally sustainable, anti-seismic building solution by CogEsi with DuPont Tyvek is being supplied to earthquake-hit areas in Italy.

Following the devastating earthquake in L'Aquila, Italy last year, a reconstruction project called CASE (Complex Anti-seismic Sustainable Ecocompatible) has been undertaken by a new association of building companies called CogEsi.

Realised in record time, seven condominium buildings of 25 apartments each - all meeting modern sustainability and anti-seismic building codes have been constructed for the families whose homes were declared unusable following the disaster.

CogEsi is an association of companies formed for this specific project by Italian building consortium which specialises in sustainable building solutions and by highly established building company CoGe.

The project adopts dry stratification technologies designed by a consortium member.

The construction technology behind dry stratification allows the assembly of various layers of bio-sustainable elements to create the external walls of the building with load bearing steel, wood or prefabricated structures on which the sheets are mounted.

This solution satisfies the highest anti-seismic and eco-compatible building standards.

It is fast to execute, allows the construction of buildings which are safe and which benefit from significant energy savings and high levels of interior comfort.

For the building envelope, Celenit supplied a panelised insulating solution for roofs and walls, made with natural materials and with the protection of DuPont Tyvek Enercor metallised breather membranes.

DuPont Tyvek Enercor is a metallised weather-tight vapour open membrane with CE certification.

A proven low emissivity surface blocks radiant heat in summer and reduces heat losses in winter while delivering breathability to the building envelope and offering humidity dispersion capabilities.

This combination significantly contributes to improved energy performance and interior comfort, while offering lightweight yet robust durability and easy installation.

DuPont Tyvek Enercor works effectively with other materials used in dry stratification.

To optimize the management of humidity, the vapour control layer DuPont Tyvek VCL, which providing a further barrier to air leakage, was also incorporated in some cases in the internal part of the panel structure for the roofs of the project.
