Delivering safety in Sunderland
easi-edge has supplied 5,000 linear metres of its market leading safety barrier systems for use on a development of luxury apartments in Sunderland.
The regulations are detailed, but choosing easi-edge for edge protection solutions ensures that specifiers can rest easi - safe in the knowledge they have chosen a product that meets the requirements of the regulations and has been featured in a recent HSE document praising easi-edge and its products for best practice.
For full details, the complete Act must be studied, or the HSE produce a brief guide to work at height regulations, but the essential details are quite simple.
The rules on work at height apply to all where there is a risk of a fall liable to cause personal injury.

Safety first with with loading bay barriers
easi-edge is now taking loading safety to a higher level, with the development of the easi-edge loading bay barrier.
Employers have a key duty here, since they must do "all that is reasonably practicable to prevent anyone falling".
Employers must avoid work at height where possible, but where it is necessary, employers must use the most suitable equipment to prevent falls, with collective protection (such as edge protection) given priority over personal protection.
This means the priority is to provide an environment that makes working at height as safe as possible for all.
easi-edge General Manager Peter Wroblewski said, "Few realise that falls from height continue to be the single biggest cause of deaths in the workplace and are the biggest cause of serious injury in the UK.
It is facts like these that make you realise why easi-edge are so determined to see safety products widely used in the industry".
The facts speak for themselves.
In 2004/5, falls from height accounted for 53 fatal accidents at work in the UK and some 3800 people were seriously injured from falls from height in the workplace.
* Serious injury means broken, bones and fractured skulls and despite campaigns such as Height Aware run by the HSE, the figures still remain unacceptably high.
Complacency still accounts for a significant proportion of the figures, since people still do not seem to realise that you do not need to fall far to be seriously hurt.
The figures from 2004/5 show that 7 deaths and 2247 major injuries resulted from falls below head height.
In order to combat these figures, easi-edge has developed a range of safety solutions designed to enable employers to comply with the letter of the law while ensuring the collective safety of everyone working at height on site.
The primary easi-edge product is the Edge Protection Barriers that bolt or clamp directly onto structural steelwork and are both lightweight and extremely tough.
They are flexible enough to meet any design and can be bolted onto the steel at ground level.
easi-edge pioneers this type of ground level installation, which reduces exposure to work at height and has been a key factor in the success of the system.
The system has proved so successful, that over 100 miles of safety barriers are provided by easi-edge every year.
Stair barriers are also available, which combine with the edge protection barriers and offer an additional safety feature.
Given the number of deaths and injuries that occur from falling only a short distance, easi-edge has also developed Trailarrest, an innovative system that provides protection from falls while loading and unloading vehicles on site.
Taking just 20 minutes to assemble, Trailarrest is a highly effective way to arrest falls while loading and unloading vehicles on site.
Peter Wroblewski said, "easi-edge take safety on site seriously and it is our aim to work with all relevant agencies and our clients to cut the number of deaths and serious injuries caused by falls on site".
"While more easi-edge products being used on developments around the country is helping, we also recognise that education is a key factor and we continue to work closely with organisations like the BSCA and the HSE to deliver advice and assistance, including the organisation of Best Practice Days for those working in the industry".
Only by working together and using the most suitable safety solution for work at height will we cut the current levels of death and injury still happening every year.
