Asbestos management experts Environmental Essentials is continuing its fight against fatal lung conditions by choosing Breath of Life as its charity of the year.

The Stoke-on-Trent firm, which specialises in asbestos surveys, material testing and air testing, runs training sessions to promote asbestos awareness, which aim to prevent people contracting serious diseases through exposure to asbestos fibres Asbestos-related illnesses include lung cancer, asbestosis, and mesothelioma, and account for over 4000 work-related deaths per year - which is more than occur on the UK's roads

They have now decided to help North Staffordshire charity Breath of Life fund research into lung and chest problems and purchase medical equipment for the use of local sufferers.

Their first commitment is to enter two teams of four into the Potters Arf Marathon on June 8th, but they are also planning to organise events and other fundraising activities for later in the year.

Sales Director Richard Powner said: "We wanted to help a local charity and thought Breath of Life were ideal because of the overlap between our organisations.

"We are trying to prevent the spread of lung conditions like mesothelioma through exposure to asbestos, and Breath of Life are doing great work in helping those with lung and chest problems".

The partnership is a great boost for Burslem-based Breath of Life, which is looking to raise more funds in this way, rather than having to totally rely on donations and grant income.

They have also recently paired up with photographers A1Fotograffix to help generate funds.

Appeals Co-ordinator John Belfield said: "We would like to thank the team at Environmental Essentials for their support, and hope this will encourage other companies to come forward.

"Corporate partnerships like this are very important to us as we are a small charity and need to develop a range of income sources to supplement our own fundraising efforts.

"This is especially important as we do not receive any statutory funding for our work.".
