Radical vision for Thames Gateway National Park to deliver urban growth and economic and social regeneration through sustainable communities has been unveiled by consortium that includes EC Harris.

Consortium set to unveil National Park vision for Thames Gateway 28 June, 2006 - A radical vision for a Thames Gateway National Park to deliver urban growth and economic and social regeneration through sustainable communities will be unveiled today (June 28) by a consortium led by Sir Terry Farrell The first public showing of the vision will be announced at an event at HBOS Auditorium in London

The consortium which has produced the report includes Bank of Scotland, Battle McCarthy, EC Harris, Experian, Farrells, Future Foundation and Scott Wilson.

The event chaired by Graham Matthews of EC Harris will open with a keynote speech from Sir Terry Farrell on the 'radical new thinking on placemaking in the tidal Thames'.

He will be followed by Guy Battle from Battle McCarthy on 'building a sustainable bioregion' and Richard Holt from Experian on 'creating strong economies and strong communities'.

The three speakers will be followed by a discussion session with representatives from the consortium debating the future of the Thames Gateway, London and the South East.

Sir Terry said: "The message that the consortium will deliver is that this not just a vision for the Thames Gateway, it is the only vision for the area".

"The publication of our report means that the Thames Gateway project, the concept for which is nearly 20 years old, has finally got off the ground".

""The development of a National Park for the Thames Gateway has so many advantages for London and the surrounding area in economic, social and environmental terms.

This vision will create a place where the 'bluefield' and 'greenfield' will combine to create a place where people can live, work and enjoy life to the full".

Graham Matthew of EC Harris said: "Currently no vision for the Thames Gateway exists and although a great deal of thinking is being put into the Thames Gateway initiative, much of it lacks any cohesion because of the lack of vision".

""We believe that our consortium can put forward a vision that could be adopted and developed by the Government and others".

"Our vision not only builds on the legacy of the 2012 Olympics, but delivers the Government's housing targets with space to spare and offers the only credible answer to London's growth needs".

Following today's event, a parliamentary briefing sponsored by the Right Honourable Frank Dobson MP will be held on July 4 at Portcullis House to help seek the support of Central Government for the Consortium's vision for the Thames Gateway.
