BAA Glasgow Airport Ceiling Replacement
Contract
BAA Glasgow Airport ceiling replacement contract has been allocated on environmental grounds to Ecophan.
Extensive areas of Glasgow Airport's International Pier are being given a facelift internally with Ecophon having won a repeat order for the supply of ceiling tiles thanks to its capabilities in the area of recycling, as well as all round product performance BAA Glasgow Airport's own maintenance staff are undertaking the replacement of the Ecophon tiles during night-time shut downs of public areas: installing Focus D and Focus E, 600 x 600 mm tiles in place of the superseded products

Rather than seeing the old tiles simply thrown away, however, BAA's environmental policy dictated that they should be disposed of responsibly, and only Ecophon was able to offer an authentic recycling service.
Accordingly, when sufficient quantities of the old tiles have been collected together, the manufacturer arranges for them to be transferred to its specialised facility in Scandinavia where the raw material is reclaimed.
Cliff Anthony, BAA Glasgow Airport 's Maintenance Team Manager, comments: "When Phase II of the International Pier was opened in 1994 the suspended ceiling grids contained Focus Rillo tiles which featured a V-notch giving the appearance of a 300 x 300 tile." "It is BAA's environmental policy to recycle as much as possible rather than allowing waste to go to landfill, and we were the first major company to approach Ecophon about the possibility of recycling their tiles in this country.
No other manufacturers we approached could undertake to remove the old tiles from site and ensure they were recycled so we were pleased to award Ecophon the contract." To date some 300 square metres of ceiling have been replaced around the 'Airside' areas of the pier.
Installing the new Focus tiles in the original grid has helped keep the costs down, with further areas being addressed under the refurbishment programme. Request a free brochure from Ecophon ...
