Riding a wave with the architectural S-line tile
Architect in charge at Ashton Sixth Form College made full use of Ecophon's innovative architectural ceiling tiles.
Project Director at Murray O'Loaire Architects, Mr Mike Townsend comments: "We were basically looking for a product that would offer us a different dimension compared to the competitor's wet pressed acoustic tile that had been used elsewhere across Microsoft's European Operations Centre.
We wanted something to lift the drama and the quality of the spaces such as the reception area and high level walkways around the atrium: and Ecophon's Focus in terms of tiles achieved this.
"Focus afforded us a lot of opportunities in terms of both style and function.
The tile is adaptable and allows you to deal with the cut edge.
The very good acoustic performance was a bonus." Microsoft's Facilities Manager, Brian Collins, confirms: "I worked closely with the architect on the selection of products for the fit out of the Atrium Building and both of us had employed Ecophon products on other projects in the past.
In this instance we decided on the specification of Focus both for reasons of the high aesthetic requirements for the building and the acoustic performance." Most significant in the specification for the Atrium building has been the way the design team have employed the '6x6' and '12x12' format Focus tiles to escape the conventional appearance of suspended ceilings.
The smaller unit size offers a different sense of proportion to the room soffit while still facilitating easy demountability without damage for service requirements.
These are to be found infilling around 1800 metres squared of ceiling grid where each of the floor templates meets the atrium. Request a free brochure from Ecophon ...
