Ecophon 'Mobiles' Mute Sound At Sydney
School
An unusual application of Ecophon's acoustic ceiling tiles has helped control reverberation within a nursery school classroom at Dagenham in Essex.
As a regular specifier of the Ecophon range, the architectural consultancy responsible for the design of the Sydney Russell Nursery School chose to employ the manufacturer's Focus A XL ceiling tiles in the manner of mobiles, suspended from the room soffit As in the case where special absorbing panels are placed on otherwise hard, echoing wall surfaces, the Focus tiles will act to intercept sound waves and reduce the room's characteristic reverberation time

Architect in charge at Ashton Sixth Form College made full use of Ecophon's innovative architectural ceiling tiles.
Brian Vermeulen, the partner in charge of the project for Cottrell and Vermeulen Architects, reflects: "This was something we tried out to help reduce noise in one specific room and create an interesting feature as well.
As a practice we make extensive use of the Ecophon range of acoustic ceilings in projects such as this and get good technical support.
We have been very happy with the way the project turned out and its design has been praised by other people." Two dozen of the 20 mm thick, 1200 mm x 600 mm Focus AXL tiles were cut down so that they tapered from 500 mm wide at one end to 100 mm at the other.
The Ecophon technical representative worked with the ceiling installer to ensure the pairs of wires were securely fixed to the tops of the baffles.
They were then suspended from the classroom's concrete ceiling at slighltly varying heights to give extra visual interest.
Further to this, Ecophon's Advantage tiles were used to create a durable and economic suspended ceiling in an adjacent room.
The purpose of this space was to create a 'quiet room' where children can take a nap.
As a specialist in the design of pre-school facilities, including for the Sure-Start organisation, Cottrell and Vermeulen currently has three other nursery projects under way where it is employing Ecophon suspended ceilings. Request a free brochure from Ecophon ...
