Ecophon gives Ballymun congregation new
voice

Ballymun Holy Spirit Church in Ireland completed extensive refurbishment that has included the installation of an Ecophon acoustic ceiling system.

Members of the congregation at the Ballymun Holy Spirit Church in Ireland are raising their voices in celebration with renewed enthusiasm following the completion of an extensive refurbishment contract that has included the installation of an Ecophon acoustic ceiling system The contemporary style building in the town of Ballymun features a brick clad, steel frame construction and had always suffered from poor audibility, resulting from an excessive reverberation period

The specification of the Ecophon grid system carrying 600 x 600 Focus D tiles by architectural consultancy, Whelan Corcoran Smith, has not only greatly improved acoustic comfort in the church, but brought other benefits for parishioners and clergy.

The project architect for Whelan Corcoran Smith, Mr Vinnie Convery, comments: "This was a renovation carried out not just because the interior was getting a bit tired, but also the church has a portal frame construction similar to many industrial buildings and the sound quality was very poor, with reverberation throughout".

"We have employed Ecophon products on a number of occasions in the past and specified the Focus D tile to improve the performance." "We also designed a step in the ceiling to create a feature and provide an element of recessed lighting".

"It has cured the acoustic problems and everyone is very happy with the finished interior." The Ecophon Focus range offers specifiers a selection of integrated systems, including a number of options for creating three-dimensional effects as at Ballymun.

Consultants can choose between Focus S-line, Focus Quadro, Focus L-Line and Focus Flexiform.

Together they can facilitate flowing changes in level that either serve to accommodate building services and structural elements such as downstand beams, or to simply enliven the ceiling's appearance. Request a free brochure from Ecophon ...
