The Ecophon range of acoustic ceiling systems offers different levels of performance across a selection of tiles with similar or identical appearance This was a major consideration in the specification of Ecophon products for a Bedford school for all the soffits for a new refectory building

Built by SDC Builders, the new sixth form centre and refectory at Bedford Modern School utilises a mix of Ecophon Gedina, Meditec and Advantage tiles to match a variety of acoustic performance requirements as well as to meet aesthetic demands and cost constraints.

All of the products were specified by project architectural consultants, The Inskip Partnership and installed by Roskel Contracts of Cambridge.

The senior architectural technician who supervised the construction phase of the project for Inskip Partnership, Adrian Bentley, comments: "Bedford Modern School is the first major project where we have employed Ecophon ceiling systems".

"The main reason for selecting the Ecophon systems was the fact that we could have the different grades depending on the demand, but all with the same appearance to the naked eye - rather than having to accept differing textures with the competing products".

The Meditec tiles are to be found in the kitchen where the hygiene requirement was highest, while Gedina was employed for all the circulation areas such as corridors and stairwells.

The study rooms and classrooms feature ceilings created using the Advantage product.

The three different types of tile were installed within Ecophon suspended ceiling grids, creating voids for building services.

The fact that all the tiles in the range are extremely durable allows them to be routinely demounted for maintenance purposes while their excellent acoustic performance is a further attribute making them ideal for the education environment. Request a free brochure from Ecophon ...
