IQ Glass and Super Spacer on Grand Designs
Super Spacer from Edgetech appeared on the popular Grand Designs programme on Channel 4, when customer IQ Glass UK was specified to supply the high performance glass for the Headcorn project.
Mimi De Costa and her husband Andre bought a bungalow on 12 acres of organic pasture and woodland in Kent, as the site for this Grand Designs project.
The house would as far as possible be manufactured offsite although would not be a kit house.
Almost half the house was walled in glass and as windows traditionally allow heat to escape from a home, it was particularly important that the units used in this project were of the highest specification.
IG Glass supplied the triple glazed units with Super Spacer that actually produce enough heat to be the sole heating system for the building, which is significantly cheaper than heating the space using conventional methods.
Each of the panes supplied for this project were the same size and shape at the maximum size possible for a heated window at 3x6 metres.
"We were thrilled to be part of this project," says Peter Bartels of IQ Glass UK .
"Whether you love them or hate them, all the Grand Designs projects are interesting in one way or another and I'm pleased our units provided an interesting feature for this particular home".
"Although this is a large scale project, homeowners with properties of all shapes and sizes are looking to cut down on their fuel bills and as we specialise in intelligent heating systems, we can offer them a solution".
"IQ Glass is our main offering which is an electrically heated clear double-glazing system designed to quickly and effectively radiate an even distribution of heat that reaches and maintains the users preferred room temperature".
"It is condensation free and maintenance free and provides solar gain of 54%".
The other half of the building will be clad in cedar that will turn grey to match the surrounding oak trees, creating the overall effect of an elegant wooden pavilion set against the woods.
