A new website packed with free technical information and online tools has been launched by the Energy Saving Trust to help the building profession become more energy efficient.
Fitting double glazing can reduce heat loss through windows by half as well as reducing noise and condensation.
It could also cut the heating bill by up to £40 per year.
"I know it sounds a bit corny," said Christine Kinnear, EST Business Marketing Manager, when commenting on the new guide.
"But when laid out in this fashion the advantages to be gained by using best practice in windows really are 'clear to see', as this simple guide shows.
"The Energy Efficiency Best Practice in Housing (EEBPH) website includes a database of documents that cover all aspects of best practice in energy efficiency, from condensing boilers to low energy lighting and insulation.
The database produces information relevant to the profession of the visitor and the area they live in.
Further services on the site include online booking for forthcoming free training events and a facility to register for regular email updates.
