Energy Efficiency Week 2004
At the launch of the Energy Saving Trust's (EST) annual Energy Efficiency Week 2004 builders are being urged to take a front line role in the UK's fight against climate change.
Since the Community Energy Programme's inception in 2002, EST has allocated almost all of the £50 million Government funding, with a further funding round in January.
Commenting on the latest grant announcement, EST's Chief Executive, Philip Sellwood, said: "The Community Energy scheme has supported over 60 projects, demonstrating just how much demand there is for energy efficient heating.
Schemes supported by the programme in 2002-04 have assisted nearly 58,000 people on low incomes, generated 50MW of CHP and saving more than 25,000 tonnes of carbon per annum.
"We would strongly encourage more authorities to take the lead on new and emerging technologies to help to contribute to a cleaner Britain." The grant funding will be used to help refurbish existing or build new community heating projects that supply the needs of multiple users while substantially reducing energy bills, as well as, helping to combat the problems associated with growing greenhouse gases and fuel poverty.
